Garland Hall
Garland Hall, the Univesity's central administrative building,
was designed by Meyer, Ayers, and Saint, and constructed between
1969-71. The construction was originally planned to take much
less time, but was delayed by workers' strikes in late 1969.
![]() The building is named in honor of Charles S. Garland, a trustee of the University from 1946-71 (chairman 1958-68) and a partner in the Baltimore investment banking firm of Alex. Brown and Sons. Garland was also a noted tennis player, becoming the first American to win at Wimbeldon when he and R. Norris Williams II took the doubles championship in 1920.
