On Campus

 

 

Attempt TheftRemsen Hall – On June 13th between 4:00 AM and 7:30 AM, a laptop’s securing cable was partially cut and desk drawers were gone through inside a lab.  No sign of forced entry.  Nothing was taken. Investigation continuing.

 

 

Off Campus

 

 

Damaged Property Evergreen House Meadow (south of the house), 4545 N. Charles St. – Between June 8th at 7:30 PM and June 9th at 7:00 AM, three wire-and-aluminum-foil bridges constructed by an artist were damaged by unknown person(s).   Investigation continuing.

 

Shoplifting (Property Recovered)Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 3330 St. Paul St. – On June 10th at 8:08 PM, a store employee reported that a male suspected carrying a concealed music CD was leaving the store. A campus officer and an off-duty Baltimore Police officer working for JHU stopped the non-affiliated male and recovered the item from him. The shoplifter was identified, given a trespass warning and released when the store declined to press criminal charges.

 

TheftWyman Building 3rd Floor – Between June 6th at 8:00 AM and June 10th at 11:56 AM, an employee’s unattended handbag was taken from an unlocked desk drawer in an open office.  Investigation continuing.

 

Destruction of PropertyDell House 14th floor, 2850 N. Charles St. –On June 10th at 10:00 AM, an employee discovered an employee’s office door was damaged, disabling it’s lock.  With the building under renovation, the building project manager responded to arrange for repairs.  Campus officer checked the other floors -- no other damage was found. Investigation continuing.

 

Attempt Theft from AutoSpace Telescope Science Institute Garage – On June 10th between 11:00 AM and 5:30 PM, a Space Telescope Science Institute employee found his vehicle’s rear license plate on the ground near his driver’s side door along with a pair of pliers.  No signs of tampering to the door lock. Baltimore Police responded.  Investigation continuing.  

 

Attempt Armed Robbery / ShootingSt. Paul Street Cleaners, 3120 St. Paul St. - On June 11, 2008, at approximately 1:40 PM a male suspect entered the St. Paul Street Cleaners, located at 3120 St. Paul Street, produced a knife and then announced a robbery.  The owner of the cleaners retrieved a handgun and shot the suspect three times striking him in the hand, arm and hip (non-life threatening wounds.)  The suspect fled the store and asked a passerby to hail him a cab.  The passerby, however, called 911 instead.  Upon arrival of Baltimore Police, an ambulance was summons and the suspect was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment.   The victim was not injured but was transported to Union Memorial Hospital for evaluation.  Baltimore Police advise that the suspect will be charged criminally for this incident.  No affiliates involved in this incident.  Investigation continuing by Baltimore Police.

 

ARREST – Trespasser3700 Blk. San Martin Dr. – On June 12th at 5:07 PM, Campus Officers observed a male who had previously been warned of trespassing and who had also been arrested in 2004 for a bicycle theft at JHU, walking in the 3700 block San Martin Drive.  Campus Officers notified Baltimore Police whereby the male was stopped in the 100 blk. W. University Pkwy and identified.  Subsequent to being interviewed, Baltimore Police discovered the male was in possession of vise grip pliers and a pair of wire cutters concealed in a bag.  The suspect was arrested and criminally charged with Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, False Statement, Failure to Obey and Possession of Burglary Tools.

 

ARREST – ShopliftingBarnes & Noble Bookstore, 3330 St. Paul St. – June 15th at 7:00 PM, a store employee observed a non-affiliated male leave the store without paying for two boxes of candy he had taken and consumed in the building. Baltimore Police responded and arrested the suspect. Campus officers issued a trespass warning banning the suspect from the building and all Hopkins properties.

 

 

 

 

REMINDERS

 

When traveling at night use the Security Department’s escort service at 410-516-8700.  Security Escort Vans are operational from 5:00 PM to 3:00AM.

During exam week an Escort Van will also be running from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM as a service to students studying on campus.
