What is SEA?

SEA is JHU's Students for Environmental Action, a group of students concerned with the present state of the campus, local, and global environment. We are currently focusing on campus sustainability and community outreach. To pursue these goals more effectively we formed two action groups that meet occasionally in addition to the regular meetings.

Our campus sustainability group is working with Davis Bookhart, JHU's recently hired manager of Energy and Environmental Stewardship, to promote and implement projects on campus and work with students, faculty, and staff to encourage more sustainable behavior. By involving the campus community and gaining administrative support we will be better poised to solicit the adoption of explicit policies for responsible purchasing, sustainable building and campus resource management.

The main project currently managed by the community outreach group is SEA's community garden. Another goal of the group is to collaborate with a local elementary school to teach students about recycling and/or sustainable living through involvement in hands-on activities. Ideas include gardening, recycled art projects, field trips to Baltimore recycling facilities, and joining SEA members for stream cleanups.
