Start MOP

Clear some disk space, start MOP, and initialize the CCD. We assume you're already logged onto sdssmth.
Check disk space in /data/mt Raw data reside on sdssmth at /data/mt/MJD where MJD is the modified Julian date at the start of the night (something like "51560"). We have enough disk space to save a few night's of data, after which it must be erased to make room for more.

To erase data directories, cd to /data/mt and remove them (but be sure to check that they've been written to tape twice, or are at least written to tape once and also rsync'ed to hard disk at FNAL; you can look in sdss-tapelogs for the tape status and FNAL PT data rsync status for the hard drive status):

% cd /data/mt
% rm -rf ./MJD   where "MJD" is the directory to erase.

Start MOP % mop
(some informational messages)
mt> startDa -murmur
mt> ptConnect
mt> initNight -poolInit
mt> initializeTelescope
mt> iack
mt> startupGUI

The last step starts the MOP Graphical User Interface and takes a long time. Do not type anything until the windows appear.

If the MOP windows seem to hang, go to the special situations page to find out how to fix it.

Initialize CCD Hit the "initialize CCD" button in the PT Target Selection window. This clears the CCD (and also takes a long time). It also creates the /data/mt/ directory. You cannot save the PT log before you do this.
Resize video display If the CCD readout display (to the left of the pt1 monitor) is showing only part of the field, you might want to issue this command:

mt> binDisplay

This will show the entire CCD on the next readout.
