Starting the Cloud Camera

Starting the camera

1. Carry the cloud camera dewar to the cloud camera
2. Unlock the camera box and remove the cover
3. Fill the dewar with liquid nitrogen
4. Turn it on
5. Return the cover and dewar to the operations building

Taking data

1. Login to galileo using ssh:

% ssh cloud@galileo

You'll see this screen:

Commands are:
  checkcam           --> Check aliveness of TS and camera
  scanstart          --> Command master process to start scanning
  scanstop           --> Command master process to stop scanning
  gdrstart           --> Start guider monitoring system process
  gdrstop            --> Stop guider monitoring system process
  seehost            --> Set seeing monitor laptop IP number
  seestart           --> Start seeing monitoring system process
  seectrl <cmd>      --> Send <cmd> to laptop (START,STOP,SEARCH,SEARCHSTART)
  seestop            --> Stop seeing monitoring system process
  exit               --> exit when you're done.

The master control process will send error messages (and beep 3 times) to this
login session.  Leave this session open to see these messages.

control cmd>
 

2. Run these commands:

control cmd> checkcam
control cmd> scanstart

Troubleshooting

• If necessary, use canned air to clear condensation on the dewar
• If camera gets stuck in the north:
1. Issue scanstop command on dione
2. Power off the camera
3. Push the mirrors to a neutral position
4. Power on the camera
5. Issue checkcam amd scanstart commands on dione
