MAJ(P) Stephen Pomper
|
|

Professor of Military Science
MS IV Instructor
|
|
Major Pomper was commissioned from the
University of New Hampshire ROTC Wildcat Battalion in
1991. He completed the Armor Officer Basic Course
(now called Basic Officer Leaders Course II), Scout
Platoon Leaders, Bradley Fighting Vehicle and Dismounted
Scout Certification Courses at Fort Knox, Kentucky; and
the Ranger Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Major Pomper’s first assignment was to
the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort
Bliss, Texas (the unit moved to Fort Carson, Colorado)
where he served as a tank and scout platoon leader;
troop executive officer; and finally as the Squadron’s
motor officer. In 1996-97 he completed the Armor
Officer Advanced Course (now called the Captain’s Career
Course) and the Cavalry Leaders Courses at Fort Knox; he
also attended the Combined Armed Service Staff School at
Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Major Pomper’s second
troop assignment was with the 2nd Infantry
Division in the Republic of Korea where he commanded
Bravo and Headquarters Troops, 4th Squadron,
7th
Cavalry - Garryowen.
Major Pomper’s next
assignment was to the University of Tampa’s Spartan
Battalion in September 1999. He assumed the duties
as an Assistant Professor of Military Science for
training, and received the Cadet Command ROTC Instructor
of Year award in 2001. After three years, he moved
to Fort Leavenworth and completed the Command and
General Staff College (now called Intermediate
Leadership Education) and graduated from the School of
Advanced Military Studies.
The 1st
Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas was next.
Major Pomper served as a planner in the G5, and as the
operations and executive officer for the 1st
Battalion, 8th
Cavalry. During his three years with the Division,
he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (06-08) as a
Military Transition Team advisor for the 3rd
Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the 6th
Iraqi Division in Sadr City and Eastern Baghdad.
He also supported relief operation in New Orleans,
Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.
Major Pomper is
currently the Director and Professor of Military Science
at the Johns Hopkins University (Blue Jay Battalion) in
Baltimore, Maryland. He is married to Carol.
Major Pomper holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics,
University of New Hampshire. He has two Master of
Military Art and Science degrees from the Command and
General Staff College: general and operational studies.
His awards and decorations include the: bronze star
medal, meritorious service medals, Army commendation
medals, Army achievement medals, the humanitarian
service medal, National defense service ribbon, Korean
defense service ribbon, overseas ribbons, and has the
combat action badge. Major Pomper is also airborne
and ranger qualified.

MSG Garth Ambersley

Master Sergeant Garth Ambersley is a
Field Artilleryman who attended the One Station Unit
Training (OSUT) at Ft Sill Oklahoma in 1985. MSG
Ambersley has held numerous positions of leadership to
include: Section Chief, Drill Sergeant, Gunnery
Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Headquarters Platoon
Sergeant and First Sergeant.
MSG Ambersley has served in a variety of
assignments which include duties at Ft Benning, Ga Ft
Jackson, Sc Federal Republic of Korea, Germany and Ft
Hood, Tx. MSG Ambersley was also deployed to Iraq as
part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
MSG Amberlsey awards and decorations
include the following: Meritorious Service Medal, Army
Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Driver’s
Badge Track, Combat Action Badge and Drill Sergeant
Identification Badge.

MAJ Heather Levy

Executive Officer - MS II
Instructor

|
Major Heather Levy
graduated from the University of California at Berkeley
with a double major in English and Geological
Engineering. She completed a Masters in Civil
Engineering at the University of Missouri - Rolla, and
is currently working on a Masters in International
Public Policy at the Nitze School of Advanced
International Studies in Washington D.C.
Major Levy was commissioned in 1997 as an Engineer
Officer, and was assigned to Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
During that time, she served as a platoon leader,
deploying to Korea for humanitarian relief operations,
and to remote areas of Alaska for construction missions
in support of the Native population. In June 2001, MAJ
Levy deployed to Bosnia for a year in support of
Operation Joint Forge, training and working with Bosnian
police forces.
Following completion of the Engineer Captains' Career
Course and Combined Arms and Services Staff School, MAJ
Levy was assigned to 326th Engineer Battalion (Combat)
(Air Assault), where she served as Engineer Battle
Captain and logistics officer during the initial
invasion of Iraq and follow on stability operations.
Upon redeployment, she took command of the 887th
Engineer Company (Light Equipment), where she served for
22 months. During Operation Iraqi Freedom IV, she was
reassigned as Brigade Engineer for the 1st Brigade
Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. Following their
redeployment CONUS in October 2006, MAJ Levy was
reassigned to The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,
MD, where she serves as Assistant Professor of Military
Science and Executive Officer.
Her awards include the Bronze Star for Valor, Purple
Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service
Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint
Achievement Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. In
addition, she has earned the Combat Action Badge,
Pathfinder torch, and Airborne and Air Assault wings.

CPT Laurie
Forand

Operations Officer - MSIII Instructor |
Captain Laurie Forand is an
Aviation officer whose aircraft qualifications include the OH-58 and
the UH-60. She most recently served as the Battalion Adjutant
for 1-145th Aviation Regiment, Fort Rucker, Alabama. Other
assignments have included Brigade Assistant S1 and Rear Detachment
Commander, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, Platoon Leader, 3-158th
Aviation Regiment, and assistant S3, 3-58th Air Traffic Services
Regiment, all while assigned to Giebelstadt Army Airfield, Germany.
Her combat experience includes deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan
in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom I and Enduring Freedom VI.
She was also involved in the humanitarian relief effort during the
aftermath of the Pakistan earthquake of 2005.
Captain Forand’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Air
Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Captain Forand is a
2001 graduate of the University of Central Florida.

MAJ Jeremy Bushyager

Major
Jeremy Bushyager is a Military Intelligence Officer with
experience across a wide spectrum of intelligence fields
of operation. He has spent the last 20 years of
his US Army career as a student, a producer, and a
leader, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st
Armored Division, United States Special Operations
Command, Joint Special Operations Command and National
Security Agency; with experience across the strategic,
operational, and tactical spectrum all focused primarily
on Counter Terrorism and Counter Proliferation of
chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high
yield explosives.
Major Bushyager has served in many operational positions
including Collection & Jamming Platoon Leader, Brigade
Intelligence Operations Officer, Direct Support Military
Intelligence Company Commander, Division Intelligence
Planner, Joint Command Intelligence Operations Officer,
Major Subordinate Command (MSC) Intelligence Operations
Officer, and as an Iraqi Combat advisor to the 5th Iraqi
Division Intelligence Operations Officer. He currently
serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science
and Enrollment & Scholarship Officer for The Johns
Hopkins University Army ROTC program.
He is a graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a BS in Psychology
and a minor in Business Management and Marketing, and a
graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff
College. Major Bushyager is supported by his wife of 16
years, Holly, and their 6 children.
Most recently Major Bushyager was awarded a Bronze Star,
Combat Action Badge, and Army Commendation Medal with
Valor for pulling a critically injured driver and gunner
from a burning HMMV and evacuating personnel & equipment
after an IED attack in Kannan, Iraq.

SFC John Ballesteros

Sergeant First Class John Ballesteros was born in
Honolulu, HI and was raised in California. He joined
the Army as an infantryman and attended Basic Training
and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Benning, GA in
1990. SFC
Ballesteros's major assignments include tours of duty
at: Ft. Ord, CA; Ft. Davis and Ft. Kobbe of the Republic
of Panama; Ft. Benning, GA; and Ft. Irwin, CA. He was
deployed to Iraq with the 11th ACR "Blackhorse" in
support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. He
is currently serving as the Training NCO and MSIII
Instructor for the Johns Hopkins University.

Second Lieutenant Joseph
Henderson is a 2008 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University with a
degree in International Studies. He is a Military Intelligence
Officer, branch detailed to the Infantry. As an ROTC cadet, 2LT
Henderson earned the Basic Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge,
and participated in Robin Sage Special Warfare Training. His first
duty station is Ft. Lewis, WA with the 2nd Infantry Division.
