"A Modern Dilemma: Enforcing and Ensuring Civil Rights for All"

Wednesday, September 27 at 8 p.m., Shriver Auditorium, Shriver Hall With the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the United States took a big step in articulating and defining the civil rights of every citizen that thad been originally written in the Bill of Rights. But the question arose then, and still remains, how should the country go about overseeing and enforcing every aspect of its laws and legislation? Can every person in the country be ensured the ultimate protection and support of the law?
Bill Lann Lee is Assisant U.S. Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. He credits his late father, who experienced bigotry despite his proud military service to his country, with providing the inspiration for a career in civil rights law.
Sponsored with the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium and the Inter-Asian Council.
