Concerning Summer Intersession 2009 Day#1 and #2
Getting Funded
What did you like best?
Answers and addresses a lot of topics that I will have to face in the near future – that were previously very foreign and intimidating. A lot of information covered that I was completely unaware of and would not even have known to ask about.
The workshop was well organized and covered the material in good detail. I feel much more familiar with the NIH grant process now.
Well balanced overview of grants from a grant author’s perspective. Donna Vogel’s experience shows.
Talking about different grant types helped me get a good overview of what is available and to become familiar with the grant language.
The quick/broad overview of NIH funding opportunities and part of a grant application – what to do and what not to do was particularly helpful.
The content was great! I learned a lot of new things that would better equip me for writing a grant of good quality.
The way in which each section of “preparing a grant application” was presented by Dr. Donna Vogel. Also, an elaborate explanation of all grants available.

Publishing your research
What did you like best?
The tips on writing, the awareness of easy reading, the principle of a good scientific writing…Dr. Vogel does deliver to us the most meaningful information!
I like separating scientific writing from the design and overall principles, as presented here. I liked the examples of rearranging a table because changing the dimensionality is sometimes hard to see on my own.
Concentration on R01 writing
Interactive aspects visuals of figure/table formatting
The examples and supplementary material.

Presenting Your Research
What did you like best?
The source/references mentioned I feel are the best about the workshop. It gives the attendees access to resources without.
Very clear and seems like I will be able to easily apply the lessons learned to my work and professional development in general.
I really enjoyed the “delivery” portion of this workshop.

Research Leadership
Did this course offer information not available elsewhere at Hopkins?
The career panel was very helpful. I’m having a hard time finding out what I want to do after graduation and hearing about things to consider was helpful.
Yes, most of the information.
Information on networking/scientific workplace/mentoring very useful.
