Communications and your Research Career (Winter Intersession)
Dr. Donna Vogel, Director of the Professional Development Office, led “Communications and your Research Career,” an intensive four-day winter course in biomedical communications on January 14 – 17th. The workshop provided JHMI graduate students and postdocs with an understanding of the most important aspects of scientific writing and oral presentations: getting funded, getting published, and speaking about science. Dr. Ellen Hess, Associate Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, SOM, and Dr. Peter Maloney, Professor of Physiology and Associate Dean Graduate Affairs also taught in the well-received course. The next intersession course is scheduled for July 7 – 10th. Contact the PDO at jhmipdo@jhmi.edu for more information.
Biomedical Career Fair
The fourth annual Biomedical Career Fair, held April 16 on the School of Medicine's Turner Concourse, drew more than 450 attendees, a significant increase over last year. The four-hour event, sponsored by the JHMI Professional Development Office, was open to all JHMI graduate students, postdocs, faculty and staff.
Among the 28 exhibitors were agencies of the National Institutes of Health, Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox P.L.L.C., Synchogenix, Booz Allen Hamilton, Kelly Scientific Resources, McKinsey & Co., CATO Research and Johns Hopkins Technology Transfer.
Several vendors told the organizers that they had returned as a result of hiring candidates from last year's fair, and many noted that they expected this year's contacts to result in hires as well. |
