Mission Statement |
||
The purpose of JHUPCA is to encourage cultural awareness and provide community service in the Baltimore community. Our community service projects last year ranged from educating elementary schools children about different cultures to holding weekly tutoring sessions at Fellowship of Lights, a local children's homeless shelter, to volunteering weekly at Heart's Place, an adult homeless shelter, and finally to cooking monthly dinners for children at the Hopkins' Children Home. This year we will implement a pen-pal project matching 4th and 5th graders at Margaret Brent Elementary school with children in Bangledesh. By recruiting Peace Corps colunteers to come speak at local schools, we increase cultural awareness at the elementary school level. We are shifting our attention from Fellowship of Lights to a cultural after-school program in Margaret Brent Elementary. |
