Bloomberg School of Public Health Members Present: Drs. Robert Blum, Marie Diener- West, William Eaton, John Groopman, Roger McMacken, Jonathan Samet, Alfred Sommer, Donald Steinwachs, James Yager, and Scott Zeger; and Ms. Robin Fox, staff. Members Absent: Drs. William Brody, Steven Knapp, Robert Black, Ron Brookmeyer, Diane Griffin, Martha Hill, Robert Lawrence, Edward Miller, E. William Spannhake, and Jonathan Weiner. Guests: Professor Stephen Teret and Ms. Diane Glover. Meeting Convened: Dean Alfred Sommer convened the meeting at 2:30 p.m. Approval of the Minutes: Minutes of the 894th Advisory Board meeting of March 31, 2005 were approved. Remarks by the Dean: Dean Sommer noted that the Advisory Board meeting is abbreviated to enable members to attend a presentation of one of the dean candidates. He then announced that Dr. Noel Rose will be awarded the Stebbins Medal and Drs. Diener-West and Navarro and Professor Teret will be awarded Golden Apples at Convocation. The Advisory Board congratulated Dr. Diener- West and Professor Teret. Dr. Sommer then commented that a half-day management retreat will be scheduled to discuss a variety of administrative issues. Report of the Faculty Senate: Dr. Diener-West remarked that three issues remain under discussion by the Faculty Senate, and that subcommittees have been convened to further review each issue. These issues include: Faculty quality of life; recruitment and retention of women and minority faculty; and transitions of productive, aging faculty. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
