Exhibition. Homewood House Museum,
Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday,
noon to 4 p.m. Homewood House Museum presents two simultaneous exhibitions: Portico, Passage, to Privy: HABS Records Homewood, which will display the findings of a two-year Historic American Buildings Survey of the house museum, and Homewood: Icon ofthe Colonial Revival, which will examine Homewood's influence on institutional and residential architecture over the last century. Educational programs related to the exhibitions will be held throughout the fall and will be announced at a later date. Upper Quad, 7 p.m. The Foundation for Defending Democracies, the College Republicans and other student groups present Hopkins 9/11 Memorial Vigil, featuring an illuminated display of two "towers of light," representing the World Trade Center towers in New York City. Elected officials as well as representatives from Operation Tribute to Freedom, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the university's Interfaith Center are scheduled to speak. Co-sponsors include the College Democrats, the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium, the Foreign Affairs Symposium, the JHU Student Council, the Office of Student Life, Skytech Lighting and the HSA Programming Collaboration Committee. Free. p.m. Richard Epstein, the James Parker Hall Distinguished Service Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, will present "Public Use v. Public Benefit: What's the Difference in a Word?" Epstein will discuss the Supreme Court's June 23, 2005, decision upholding the right of government to condemn private property for a "public purpose." The event is the 2005 Constitutional Forum, supported by the George Huntington William Memorial Lectureship. The forum is sponsored by the Office of the President in conjunction with the Department of Political Science and the Institute for Policy Studies. The MSE Symposium 2005, American Mass Media: Redefining the Democratic Landscape, presents James Carville, political strategist who masterminded Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992. Carville, known for his colorful debating style, is a political commentator on CNN where he formerly co-hosted Crossfire and now holds down the liberal left in debates on Inside Politics.
