Biologic Materials

Materials scientists have used biological products as structural materials (like wood), they’ve interfaced traditional materials with the body (like hip implants), and are now using biological systems to produce novel materials.

Materials scientists have recently been using bacteria to produce high quality liquid crystal polymers - someday, these might find their way into laptop computer screens.

Titanium hip implants have given many tens of thousands of people the ability to continue walking!
