Overview:

Stratigraphically recorded climate cycles arising from rotational-orbital influences on the Earth's insolation can be used to calibrate geological time at very high resolution. In the climate spectrum (Fig. 1 below), these forced climate cycles cluster in four bands, and are associated with climate system components that range from medium slow (cryosphere) to extremely fast (atmosphere). A brief survey is given here:
