From Blacktop to Green Lot
What used to be about three acres of parking spaces behind
Garland Hall (above) is now the site of two new buildings,
Mason Hall and the Computational Science and Engineering
Building. It's also home to one of the largest green roofs
in Maryland because under the new Decker Quad is a 604-car
parking garage. Workers removed 11,000 truckloads of dirt
to make room for the structure. And the oval of grass on
top measures 900 feet around (or one-fifth of a mile, if
you're thinking about jogging it). Now, instead of
blacktop, visitors to the Homewood campus see trees,
bricked pathways, and a lush lawn. |
