On the Horizon

Travelers in and around East Baltimore may have noticed the changing cityscape.Johns Hopkins is developing a five-acre site to create two 12-story towers, a new two-story main entrance for the hospital, adult and pediatric emergency departments, and more. It's one of the largest health care building projects in the country. During the day, it looks pretty much like a construction site. But at night, glowing interior lights play off the more than 12,000 tons of structural steel, illuminating the skyline. At the center of this photograph is the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cardiovascular and Critical Care Tower; just to the right in the shadows is the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center. The buildings should be completed by the end of 2010 and operating in spring 2011.
