(coming soon!) Last Updated: 2004-05-08 |
March 25, 2003 Crappity-crap. We've been booted from Gilman 12, and meetings are now held in Gilman 33 until further notice. It was the JohnCon movie room this year...you know, the one with the clanging pipes and no windows?? Meetings are still 8 PM on Thursdays. This week is Dodgeball...we'll meet in Gilman and will head outside soon afterwards, so we won't have to stay in that stuffy room too long. Shannon's met with Dean Boswell to find us a better home as soon as possible. *poof* - Your "chemistry-sponsored caffeine addiction" webmaster, Rachel March 4, 2003 Better to wait five months before updating the HopSFA site than to not update it at all, right? *humph* I've FINALLY moved this site to the jhu.edu domain from its old, wretched place at Geocities. Maybe that'll encourage me to update it more often. Maybe. UPDATES: * The Spring 2003 schedule is UP! Whoo! * JohnCon went great this past weekend, with a very good turnout. Much thanks to Amanda, Lyric, Joshbob, and everybody else who helped out or showed up at the convention to make it a success! * The HopSFA 2002 - 2003 sex symbols are as follows: Male - Mike Montanye Female - Jeramy Hansen Other - Joshbob's Man-Magnet Pants * I've put up some more links on the Links page. I'd be happy to put up some HopSFen's personal websites/livejournals/blogs if you want me to (or let me...). * Just in case you've forgotten: We still meet on Thursdays at 8 PM in Gilman 12. The HopSFA 2002-2003 Board:
Top: Rudy Yukich (HopSFAnatic Editor), Shannon Dean (President) Bottom: Paige Zeller (Treasurer), Rachel Moss (Board Member at Large), Abby McGuirk (Anti-President) - Your still-recovering-from-JohnCon webmaster, Rachel October 22, 2002 Wow. I haven't updated this thing in a hella long time! *sigh*hellsemester*sigh* Lots of stuff has happened since the last update! We went to the Renn Faire, cheered (or cried) at our lower, updated purity scores, and we're currently in the process of killing each other...having already dressed up as James-Bond-esque spies for an elegant feast at Burger King and Friendly's. Also, we've switched meeting rooms. We've met in the Little Theater in Levering for decades, but it was taken from us (and changed into a computer lab, gah!), and now we meet in Gilman 12, in the basement. The next meeting, on Thursday, October 24, is a LARP run by Justin and Josh in basement of Gilman. Thursday, 8 PM, Gilman 12. Whoo! Then, on Saturday, October 26, we're going to Haunted Mill...a frickin' scary haunted house in Pennsylvania. Check out the website for details. The next meeting after that is October 31... o.O Halloween! We're going to Edgar Allen Poe's house! And on that Friday, November 1, we're having the first HopSFA party of the year...to celebrate this most sacred of holidays...Halloween! Also...a little side note...I'm trying to plan out a trip to see the bands Blind Guardian and Symphony X on November 22. Both bands are wonderful and play lots of fantasy- and science fiction-inspired artsy metal. The concert is on a Friday night at Jaxx in West Springfield, VA, and tickets are $20 (and can be bought at Record and Tape Traders, by the way). If enough people want to go, maybe we can organize a van, if not, find a metal fan with a car and get over n'ya! E-mail me at zathlazip@yahoo.com for more details. And another note...we hope to get stuff together for another edition of the HopSFAnatic soon. If you're interested in writing a fantasy or science fiction story/poem for us or would like to submit some art, let us know! More about that later. And, a *final* note - Lyric has put up a basic site for JohnCon '03 for dealers and registration and such. Hurrah! Bah. Later! - Your hell-semesterified webmaster, Rachel September 19, 2002 Alrighty. What's new? Tonight (Thursday the 19th), is the semi-annual HopSFA dodgeball game. We all meet on the steps of Levering at 8 PM, and we choose an appropriate place to hurl objects at each other. Hopefully many of the freshmen (and others who had not known well the likes of HopSFA) will return from the last meeting, and we can all have a good ol' time. Arrrrrrrgh, 'ye matey. On Saturday the 21st, we're off to the Renn Faire! It's a little bit of a drive, but we're arranging a van or two, plus quite a few other HopSFA members will be driving themselves and will have available spots in their cars, so we should be good on transportation if you'd like to come with us. We're meeting in front of Levering at 8:30 AM, and leaving (on *time*!!) at 9 AM. Admission to the Faire is $5. Yar! Also, sometime during the weekend , we will have a meeting for those interested in getting involved in JohnCon '03, taking place in early March. JohnCon is, of course, our annual gaming/sci-fi/fantasy convention, and it's always a lot of fun, but we definitely need more people who will be there to help us plan it for this year. If you're interested in helping us, contact Shannon at hopsfa@jhu.edu. That's all for now. - Your "yes, I do know that the Geocities pop-up ads are annoying" webmaster, Rachel September 11, 2002 The SAC Fair went along superbly; nobody could argue that the HopSFA booth didn't make itself known. JHU's Daily Jolt has a couple pictures of the HopSFA SAC booth on their site. For everyone who didn't see them already, here they are: Clickable for enlargificication. HopSFA's first meeting of the year is TOMORROW, September 12. It's the scavanger hunt. Sixty-nine items, one hour to find them...and hopefully a lot of new fen to join in. I posted all the rest of the scheduled meetings (plus a few other things) on the "Dates" page. Joshbob turns 20 on Friday. *poke* Right. Enough for now. - Your "I almost look normal in that second SAC photo" webmaster, Rachel September 4, 2002 Wow, things are really starting to get together here. The SAC Fair is Friday, Sept. 6th, at 3 PM on the freshman quad. Help us recruit new fen (and totally weird out everybody else, as usual), or at least try to visit the HopSFA booth. It should be very interesting. On Thursday, September 5th, we're all meeting at Paige's/Rudy's/Christina's house (275 W. 31st St.) at 8 PM to make posters for the fair. Poster-making materials would be appreciated. Snacks will be provided. The first HopSFA meeting of the year is scheduled for Thursday, September 12th, at the usual place and time (8PM, Little Theater in Levering). All are welcome! We'll do the usual introduction/reintroduction sorts of things, and then we're going on a kickass scavenger hunt. Good to bring a backpack for that...you'll need it. Signing out. -Your "Classes? What classes?" webmaster, Rachel August 27, 2002 Welcome to the new HopSFA website! Oh, sure, sure, it's not much to see now, but with a little nurturing, a little love and attention... What a coot wittle new HopSFA website. Yes, you are! *pinches cheeks* Yes, well, anyway... Orientation for all new undergraduates starts on the 30th, sophomores start coming back on September 1st, and everybody else shows up sometime before classes start on the fifth. Oh, starting another year-- so much craziness to be had! HopSFA will take part in the SAC Fair, which is happening on the freshman quad sometime in the first week of school (date, guys?); we get to show the freshmen (as well as returning students) all the great fun that Hopkins' science fiction club is about, and we might even have Rudy on a leash. Cool, huh? Come on and join us... That's all for now. Keep checking back for news/updates...there should be more once we're actually back on campus. - Your "waited until the last minute to finally get this started" webmaster, Rachel |
