SAC Fair- Recruiting fresh meat- I mean uh, freshmen. That's right, fressshhhmen.
HopSFA is back on for another exciting year! Please note our new meeting location is Schaffer 2, Wednesday 7-9:30 This year, we've got a lot planned! Movie nights and board game parties and movie premiers (The Avengers, anyone excited for that?) Scavenger hunts and pirate days, oh my! And JohnCon (tentatively April 6-8) this year is going to be... AMAZING. So stop by and hang out with crazy nerds like yourself!
DISORGANIZATION 13's FANFIC PANEL
Disorganization 13, a really really awesome panel group that is coming to JohnCon this year, is accepting submissions of fanfiction for a panel/judging session at JohnCon. Go here for more information!
JOHNCON REGISTRATION INFO UP! And Ninja DDR was AWESOME.
Go to JohnCon Registration and check out the announced prices!
Also, Ninja DDR night was a great success! Take a look at the Pictures! Alternatively, here's a sampling... *click for larger image*
JOHNCON SCHEDULE UP! And this week's meeting is Ninja DDR!
Go here for this year's tentative schedule! Also, check out the JohnCon site, as it is now being updated furiously in preparation for the convention that is... 34 days away! Oh god...
Also, this week's meeting is going to be co-hosted with On The Beat, Hopkins' rock band, guitar hero, and DDR playing club. It will be Ninja DDR night! We will have lots of DDR, pizza and soda, shuriken, and if you're very fast you may see a ninja. Maybe. No garuntees. Bring a black t-shirt and we'll show you how to fold it into a super-stealthy ninja mask!
JOHNCON UPDATE!
JohnCon is coming! The board has spent a lot of time planning, organizing, and contacting attendees and is proud to officially anounce a (tentative) list of attendees! We will have webcomic artists, vendors, and panel speakers for this year! The convention is going to be amazing...
Webcomic Artists leading panels
Cyanide and Happiness- a cynical and vastly amusing webcomic by several different artists over at explosm.net. We're happy to have two people from explosm coming!
Surviving the World- a personal favorite, Dante Shepherd never fails to turn chalkboards into a true educating vector. Pshh, forget calculus, white boards are for life lessons! And science.
Manly Guys Doing Manly Things- Manly Guys is a power-charged falcon-punch-to-the-gut made of testosterone, muscles, and machismo. This webcomic has definitely fufilled my vitamin-T deficieny. (T is for testosterone, kids!)
Strawberry Death CakeStrawberry Death Cake's blood-spattered pages kept me reading till dawn. No, your laptop screen isn't broken, this comic knows just two modes: red and less red. And it looks AWESOME.
Panels
Disorganization 13! Disorganization 13. Is. Awesome. More descriptively, they're a large panel organization who will be giving three panels throughout JohnCon. Seven of their number will migrate down from the great north to induce near-cardiac arrest from laughter. Last year was pretty close, so I gotta say guys, be careful this year, Hopkins only has so many doctors nearby... But really, these panels will not be ones to miss and we look forward to seeing Disorg13 again!
Vendors
Epic Dan from Walt's- a repeat vendor, selling a mixture of games, books, dice, and even plush microbes! Attending our convention over another one! We love this guy. Also coming:
My Safe Haven Creations Craft
Matthew Pere's Fantasy Jewelry
Cynthia's
and more!
HIGHLANDER!!!! THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.
Thanks to everyone who came out for yesterday's meeting, a showing of Highlander. Extra points to those who showed up in costume (Jeremy, ++ for the kilt, man. That was awesome.) I'll see you all next week for more sci-fi and fantasy goodness!
SCAVENGER HUNT and PIRATE/SCURVY PREVENTION WEEKEND
We'd just like to thank everyone who came out for the scavenger hunt! It was some chaotic fun, well in keeping with the HopSFA tradition! And yes, the cake was a lie. What were you expecting? Though the webmaster was, hehe, a little bit less than concious (I'm sick dammnit!), the email announcements part of the website is now up to date.
This weekend we'll be teaming up with the HOP for Scurvy Prevention Day! Dress up if possible and join us to fight the epidemic that has swept Hopkins (particularly D level...) Friday we'll be in the breezeway from 12-3 and Saturday we'll be on the Beach from 12-4. And yes, we'll be able to play in the bouncy house as much as we want. So say "ARRR" a lot and come eat those stupid vitamins!
