The Latest Scoop from Charles Diggins Greenhouse faculty parking in August (July 31, 2002) Since the closure of the Johns Hopkins Club parking lot for the chemistry building project, the lot behind the Greenhouse has been reserved for the use of club patrons. The club, however, will be closed for three weeks -- from Monday, Aug. 12, through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. During that period, the Greenhouse lot will once again be available for members of the paid parking system with a current faculty hang tag. When the club reopens on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Greenhouse lot will revert to use by club patrons only. Vital stats (July 26, 2002) Here's some stuff for the statistically minded: This summer, GX2 crews will lay down 200,000 bricks along new pathways and plazas from Clark Hall east and then around the corner to Gilman. An additional 18,000 bricks will be installed at the two entrances to Garland. Among the bricks in the pathways and plazas will be 1,120 marble pavers. Each is 2 feet by 1 foot by 2-1/4 inches. There will also be 28 benches, 36 pole-mounted light fixtures and three bicycle rack locations. We just thought you'd want to know. Opening the door (July 26, 2002) The waterproofing work on the north deck of Garland Hall is nearing completion. Though today's rain may force a brief delay, the hope is that the north entrance to Garland can be reopened by Monday, July 29. Stay tuned. Backing out the door (July 26, 2002) Take a look at the GX2 Web cam image at http://www.jhu.edu/gx/info/gxwebcam.html. You'll see that the bricklayers are almost completely past the main entrance to Levering Hall on their north-to-south sweep. As they head further and further south in the GX2 area, crews will be doing the bricklaying equivalent of painting themselves out through the back door. They'll still need to store heavy equipment and supplies, but they won't be able to do it within the construction area, for fear of ruining areas where they've already completed work. So today, fences are going up to enclose a new staging area at the northeast corner of Garland field. The area will be about 100 feet by 100 feet, and four or five parking spaces nearby will be lost temporarily to enable workers to get equipment in and out. Shipping and receiving (May 9) The GX2 project will require major changes for vendors, contractors and shipping companies like FedEx and UPS: where they make deliveries, when they can make them and in what trucks. Purchasing has already notified about 800 companies that come to campus from time to time. But you can help. Look at this memo . See where deliveries to your office or department fit in.
