Frequently Asked Questions
Please read this before e-mailing gro (at) jhu (dot) edu with a question
- I am currently on non-resident status. May I apply?
- Yes. The GRO recognizes many students on non-resident status are working full-time on their research and are encouraged to apply.
- I received a grant last year. May I apply again?
- Yes, a previous grant recipient may apply again, provided that it is a new *academic* year. The academic year runs from July 1st to June 30th.
- Why is my department ineligible for the travel grants?
- A representative from each department must be present at half of the prior semester's GRO General Council meetings. The list of eligible departments will be updated every semester.
- Who is on the travel grant committee?
- The committee consists of five graduate student volunteers from different academic disciplines across both Arts & Sciences and Engineering.
- How can I help ensure that travel grants continue to be offered in the future?
- You can help us grow fund the GRO Endowment which will be a permanent funding source for graduate student interests.
- I am currently out of the country. Do I need to mail my application package?
- We are often willing to reduce or waive the paper submission requirements for students who are currently located outside to country. Please contact us.
- My advisor is out of the country. Can he send my letter of support through e-mail?
- Yes, but we *strongly* prefer that it be included in your application.
- How much supporting documentation should I provide with my application?
- Please only submit supporting documentation directly related to the conference, acceptance of your paper or talk (if applicable). Please do not include bulky conference proceedings or supporting documentation relating to the very minor expenses on your budget (i.e., local ground transportation).
- I have more questions. Who should I contact?
- Please contact the GRO directly, gro (at) jhu (dot) edu. We will either answer your questions directly or forward them to the travel grant committee.
