Welch Library Classes
Welch Medical Library is offering a free class this week on
May 13, from 9
a.m. to noon, in the Welch Library Mezzanine. Writing
Effective Abstracts provides an opportunity to
learn practical guidelines for producing an abstract that
really works, is informative, interesting and
concise. Both well-written and flawed examples will be
analyzed to discover what editors and readers
expect to see in the abstract of a research manuscript and
to learn how to avoid common pitfalls.

Call for Animal Welfare Award Proposals
The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal
Testing is accepting proposals for the 2008 Animal Welfare
Enhancement Awards, which are designed
to refine the housing, handling and/or experimental
situations for lab animals. The awards are
intended for laboratory and animal technicians, but senior
investigators can sponsor the applicants.

Diversity Leadership Council
The Johns Hopkins Institutions Diversity Leadership
Council, established by President Brody in 1997, is in the
process of identifying new faculty, staff and
students to serve on the council.
Nominations, including a short biography and brief
description of the candidate's reasons for
wishing to serve on the council, may be submitted to
firstname.lastname@example.org or by campus mail to DLC
Nomination, 130 Garland Hall, Homewood campus.
Self-nominations are encouraged from all levels of
the university (including APL) and the health system. The
deadline for receiving nominations is May 23.
