President's Office Issues $10,000 Neighborhood Fund
A message from Johns Hopkins President William R.
Hopkins' United Way donations to date total $1,593,511.
That is a remarkable
commitment on the part of our community, and I am confident
that we will be able to reach our 2007
financial goal of $1,992,510.
I am particularly pleased to report that there has
been overwhelmingly positive response to the
new Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund, which so far has
received $101,766 in pledges. This fund will
support organizations, selected by Johns Hopkins
Institutions employees, that are currently at work in
our neighborhoods addressing the health, educational,
public safety, employment and community
revitalization needs of residents.
By giving so generously to the Neighborhood Fund, the
Johns Hopkins community has clearly
shown that it cares about our neighbors and our
communities. In recognition of this, and in addition to
the $10,000 with which the President's Office seeded the
initiative, we will contribute $10,000 in
matching funds in support of pledges made to the
Neighborhood Fund during the two-week period
from today through Dec. 10.
The Johns Hopkins annual United Way Campaign
represents community action at its best. It
enables us as individual employees, and as an institution,
to play an important role in helping individuals
and entire communities in need. The demand for assistance
is great, and the Neighborhood Fund is an
effective way to help where help is needed most. Imagine
how our community can become a better
place for all. Imagine what you can do. Please consider
joining me in this important effort.
