Kenneth H. Keller, of Minnesota, Named Director of SAIS
Bologna
Kenneth H. Keller, a Johns Hopkins alumnus and onetime
visiting professor, has been named director of the
SAIS Bologna Center,
effective Aug. 1. He will succeed Marisa Lino, former U.S.
ambassador to Albania, who is retiring at the end of July
after serving more than three years as director of the
center, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
Keller joins Johns Hopkins from the University of
Minnesota, which he served as president from 1985 to 1988
and most recently as the Charles M. Denny Jr. Professor of
Science, Technology and Public Policy at the university's
Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. In his
35-year career at Minnesota, other leadership positions
included vice president for academic affairs, department
chair and graduate school dean. During the 2003-2004
academic year, he was a professorial lecturer and visiting
professor at the Bologna Center.
Keller holds a doctorate in chemical engineering from
Johns Hopkins and has served as a member of the Whiting
School of Engineering's national advisory council and the
Department of Chemical Engineering's board of visitors. In
1996, he received the university's Distinguished Alumnus
Award.
Keller has held several positions with the Council on
Foreign Relations in New York, including senior vice
president for programs, Philip D. Reed Senior Fellow for
Science and Technology and Volvo Distinguished Visiting
Fellow. He has recently served on a variety of educational
committees for organizations based in Israel, Qatar and
Pakistan.
Writing to the SAIS community to announce Keller's
appointment, Dean Jessica Einhorn said, "He will bring
tremendous leadership, intellect and experience to his new
role at our Bologna Center. There is great enthusiasm in
Bologna, Nanjing, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore as we
celebrate this superb addition to our leadership team."
