Director announced for Hopkins Hillel

Dan Marcus

Hillel of Greater Baltimore has announced the appointment of Daniel Marcus to the position of director for Hillel at Johns Hopkins.

Marcus, who was chosen from a field of over 50 candidates, brings with him 10 years of experience in the Jewish communal field. Most recently, he served as assistant director for the Hillel Jewish University Center in Pittsburgh, which serves more than 3,000 Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. He has also served on numerous boards, worked as a freelance Jewish educator in Jerusalem and was a program associate for Jewish learning at the Sinclair House JCC in London.

Hailing from London, Marcus graduated with honors from the University of East London, earning his bachelor's degree in sociology. While residing in Israel, he studied at Yeshiva Mayanot in Jerusalem and earned a certificate in Middle Eastern studies from Haifa University.

Marcus will join Hillel in July following the departure of Rabbi Joseph Menashe, who, after six years serving as director, will become an assistant rabbi at Congregation Shearith Israel in Dallas. "It is with a sense of great privilege and excitement that I look forward to becoming the new director of Hopkins Hillel," Marcus says. "The opportunity to utilize the magnificent Smokler Center for Jewish Life to enhance the Jewish journeys of the student body makes this a wonderful opportunity to build on a foundation already established by Rabbi Menashe, Hillel and the Baltimore Jewish community."

Marcus will move to the Baltimore area along with his wife, Debbie, and their children, 3-year-old Benji and 1-year-old Natan.
