Dr. Ruth" Westheimer, one of the country's foremost sex therapists, takes on the topic of sex education in America when she visits the Homewood campus Tuesday as part of the MSE Symposium. Westheimer — born in 1928 in Germany, schooled in a Swiss orphanage for German-Jewish children and later a teenage independence fighter in Israel — studied psychology at the Sorbonne and received her doctorate in education from Columbia University.

After studying human sexuality with Helen Singer Kaplan at Cornell University Medical Center, she helped pioneer the field of media psychology with her radio talk show, Sexually Speaking. A private practitioner and author of 14 books, she currently serves as an adjunct professor at NYU, leads seminars on adolescent sexuality at Brookdale Hospital and writes a widely syndicated newspaper column, "Ask Dr. Ruth."
