'The Fabric of the Cosmos'

Greene

Brian Greene, a world-renowned string theorist known for making the most sophisticated scientific concepts in physics and cosmology both accessible and entertaining, brings his expertise to Johns Hopkins on Oct. 13, when he gives the Potts Memorial Lecture.

Greene, a professor of mathematics at Columbia, is author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book The Elegant Universe, which has been widely covered by the media, including ABC's Brave New World series on Nightline, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, CNN, Charlie Rose, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman, Scientific American and The New York Times. Last fall, he hosted a three-part NOVA special, The Elegant Universe, on PBS.

Wednesday's lecture topic, "The Fabric of the Cosmos," takes its name from Greene's most recent book, in which he explores the nature of space, time and reality.

The Potts Memorial Lecture is administered jointly by the Physics and Astronomy Department and the Leonard R. Stulman Jewish Studies Program. Given annually, it brings leading scholars to Johns Hopkins to compare and contrast scientific and biblical views of cosmology. See Lectures.
