Living in America -- The International Society of JHMI will host "Crossing the Borders," a monthly lunchtime discussion group intended to provide international affiliates an opportunity to learn more about American culture and also to discuss the confusion, difficulty and loneliness of living in America.

Tissue Typing Drive -- "Type for Life," co-sponsored by the schools of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health and the National Marrow Donor Program, is the first student-run tissue typing drive.
The National Marrow Donor Program maintains a registry to match patients and volunteers with compatible tissue types. Minority volunteers are especially needed to help diversify the registry.
Getting typed requires only a small blood draw and should take only 5 to 10 minutes. Interested individuals can get typed at one of the following locations on the indicated dates:

Hurt and Used Book Solicitation -- The Johns Hopkins University Press staff development fund is currently accepting donations of used and unwanted books for its Hurt and Used Book Sale, scheduled for April 25 and 26. The fund wants both hardbound and paperback books, fiction or nonfiction.
Books can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 2715 N. Charles St. The last day for donations is April 21.

Student Funding Available -- Two programs are available through the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association.
The Community Service Grant Program supports valuable volunteer experiences for students. It supports students who design their own volunteer service projects or create ventures within existing organizations, while fostering good relationships between the university and its surrounding communities. Projects receiving academic credit are not eligible.
The Student Services Funding Program promotes the student experience at Hopkins by providing funding to student groups for campus programs, events and activities that benefit and involve students from all divisions of the university.
Both programs are available to all Hopkins undergraduate and graduate students.
Applications are available at divisional alumni offices, the offices of Volunteer Services in Levering Union on the Homewood campus, and Alumni Relations at 3211 N. Charles St. Applications are also available online at www.alumni.jhu.edu.
