Robert Kagan
From 1984-1988, Robert Kagan worked at the State Department as a member of the Policy Planning Staff. He served as the principal speechwriter for Secretary of State George P. Schultz and as a deputy for policy in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs. He specializes in U.S. national security and foreign policy, the European Union, and NATO expansion. A graduate of Yale University and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Kagan received his Ph.D. in American History from American University. In 1997, he founded the nonprofi t Project for a New American Century with William Kristol, where he is now Project Director. Kagan is a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He also writes a monthly column on foreign affairs for The Washington Post and is a contributing editor for The Weekly Standard and New Republic.
