About Us

The JHU Choral Society was founded in 1883 by Woodrow Wilson and his peers. It is one of the oldest groups still active on campus. We are a non-auditioned full chorus (SATB) whose focus is large-scale choral works, usually from the Classical or Baroque periods. Our repetoire varies in difficulty, but we welcome singers of all ranges and experience levels. Since there are no auditions, there is also no pressure. We rehearse once a week, so the commitment level is low, but rewarding. Every season is a new opportunity to improve yourself as a singer and sight-reader, under the tutelage of our wonderful director, Dr. Mark Hardy. We have incorporated the Baltimore Masterworks in 2008 and often perform with the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra (HSO), in the interest of collaboration and cooperation with other singers in the Baltimore area.

Join Us!

If you are interested in joining the Choral Society, great! There are no auditions, so all you have to do is send an e-mail to the Executive Board and we will put you on the mailing list. Alternatively, you can come to one of our rehearsals in the Mattin Center SDS Room and talk to a board member or Mark, our director, there.
