Title:"Genomics-powered biology as an enabler in the greenhouse and energy worlds"

Abstract

Global climate change and energy security are emerging as major challenges of our time. Although solutions do exist for addressing these challenges the difficulties are many and the costs are huge.  It is recognized that in order to stabilize the atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide a radical restructuring of the global energy system is necessary.  Moreover, significant carbon capture and sequestration will have to be accomplished.  Many scientific disciplines will have to contribute to both incremental advances as well as to possible disruptive technologies.  Biology is one discipline that is poised to deliver disruptive technologies for both the production of bioenergy as well as to large scale carbon capture and sequestration.
