Develop a List of Target Organizations

Direct application to companies and organizations can yield very successful results. Once your goal is established and your documentation created, you can begin to compile a list of firms that you want to apply. By brainstorming, you can create a list of firms that you know in the field you are seeking employment. But what about the organizations you don't know? To learn about them, consider these resources:

Career Center Library:
In the Career Center's library, you will find multiple printed resources, including directories and professional organization publications. We have many different Books of Lists that provide lists of large orgainations by industry for specific cities. such as, a list of the top advertising firms in Boston, the top non-profits in San Francisco, etc. Peer Assistants are available to answer questions and point you in the direction of great resources. CareerBeam:
CareerBeam is a comprehensive program that helps you determine what you want in your career and offers the steps to achieve it. CareerBeam provides access to information about over 15 million companies and 20 million industries. It also allows you to identify over 2 million international companies in more than 70 countries. CareerBeam is constantly updating companies’ information so you can have the most current knowledge available.

LinkedIn:
LinkedIn.com's company profiles provide information on a variety of organizations. To identify similiar companies review the lists of which companies employees of the organization have worked at before and after working at that company as well as the top organizations employees are connected to.

Vault:
Vault's guides include industry research as well as a variety of downloadable Employer Guides that provide detailed information about top companies by industry. industries profiled include: Advertising, Biotech, Consulting, Environment, Finance, Government and Nonprofit, Media, Manufacturing, and Publishing. Login to Vault through your J-Connect account.

J-Connect
The Employers tab in your J-Connect account will allow you to view all employers that have recruited Hopkins students whether it was through a career fair, an information session, resume collection/drop, job posting or campus interview.
