Internships allow you to explore a career path and get exposure to a specific industry while building valuable skills. In the 2011 senior survey, 89% of Hopkins students reported being satisfied with their internship experience. Hopkins students’ internships vary in length and may last from six weeks and one year. Hopkins students have internships in a wide variety of industries. For full-time KSAS and WSE students, the Career Center is the central point of contact for Internship Agreement Forms. Students need to bring those documents to our office. We will then review the documents to determine what steps need to be taken to complete the forms.

    Start Looking Now

In a recent survey, 58% of Hopkins students reported that they started looking for summer internships during the fall semester or in early January. Internships with the Federal Government (especially if they require security clearance), internships requiring outside funding and international inernships usually have deadlines during the Fall semester.

    Other Ways to Get Experience:

    Research:

There are many opportunities to get involved with research on the various campuses at Hopkins. Many students are successful by reaching out to specific faculty members who are conducting research in your areas of interest. You can use the following resources to access faculty researchers:

    • Welch Library Hopkins Research Profiles
    • Krieger School of Arts & Sciences Departmental Listings - Each department keeps an updated list of faculty and their research interests
    • Whiting School of Engineering Faculty Research Directory

You can also read our handout on "Getting Involved in Research."

    Part-time Jobs:

Check the Student Employment database for paid opportunities on and off campus.

    Extracurricular Activities and Community Service:

There are many opportunities to get involved in valuable experiences on campus and in the Baltimore community. Connect with the Center for Social Concern to learn more.
