> Find a Job > Application Follow-Up
Communication is the key to a successful job search. Call, email
or fax contacts reiterating your interest and inquiring about your
status unless specifically directed not to. Be polite and persistent
when asking about employers about their decision timelines and inquiring
about your next steps. Key points to remember include:
- Continue to locate and apply for new opportunities. Job seekers
tend to wait until hearing from a company before applying to the
next firm. Ideally, we want you to have many applications active
at the same time.
- Job search is a process. Average job search times range from
3 to 6 months.
- Different fields hire or different cycles. Some like Investment
Banking begin the hiring process in the fall. Others like non-profits
and advertising agencies don’t hire undergraduates until
May. Regardless of the field, it is important to start early.
- Utilize the Career Center. Visit the Career Center library,
meet with counselors, and attend workshops. We are here to help!
