Here
Here are some ways to find the internship you want. Keep your internship
goal in mind as you complete each of these steps.
- Access internship listings for JHU students.
Create a Career Center Account and register for On-Campus Recruiting.
This will give you access to the internship listings in both the
Hopkins Job and Internship Database and On-Campus Recruiting &
Resume Drops. Check both sections of your Career Center Account
regularly for updates.
- Prepare resumes to target a specific internship
opportunities in your chosen field.
- Review the Career Center’s Resume
handout (pdf).
- To develop you resume writing skills, attend one of the
Career Center's Resumes and Cover Letters workshops. View
the Career Calendar for upcoming
workshops.
- Make an appointment with a Career Center counselor to discuss
how to target your resumes for your chosen field or a specific
position.
- Have your resume(s) critiqued at the Career Center by a
career counselor or a peer assistant.
- Upload your critiqued resume(s) to your Career Center Account.
- Prepare for the interview.
How you do in an interview is primarily determined by how well
you prepare. Spend time reviewing the Interviewing
page of the Career Center's website and following up with the
suggestions.
- Research opportunities.
Use a variety of resources to research employers and identify
internship openings
- Attend Internship Week and other career center programs
on internships.
- Talk with faculty and academic department staff about internship
opportunities
- Use InCircle to find alumni to discuss career fields
and their organization
- Find industry specific information through the Career Center
and the Hopkins library's online career resources such as
WetFeet Press.
- Stop by the Career Center to use our Bloomberg Terminal
to conduct research.
- Review professional associations’ websites and journals
to find career and internship information. Check on the Career
Center's Best Career
Links about professional associations.
- Learn about current industry topics using professional
blogs, list-servs, chat rooms, and RSS feeds. Example: JobsBlog
of Technical Careers @ Microsoft has tips from their college
recruiters, interviews with new hires, and job listings.
- Meet with a career counselor to help you plan your strategy.
- Network with alumni and other professionals
in the field.
This is the best way to learn about specific opportunities in
your chosen field and how to locate these opportunities.
- Review the Networking

- Meet with a career counselor to help you take advantage
of your existing network plan your strategy to expand it.
- Discuss career and internship interests with alumni, professors,
friends, or anybody that may lead to a contact.
- Join professional
associations to interact with those in your chosen field.
- Start looking.
- Use all of your resources.
- Be organized: keep records of who you contact, their responses,
and when you to follow-up.
- Meet with a career counselor regularly to fine tune your
search process and discuss any obstacles you encounter.
