Contests and Competitions

Americorps Money for College
Each year more than 40,000 members serve with Americorps programs in every state in the nation. Participants receive a modest living allowance, health insurance, student loan deferment, and training. Upon program completion participants receive a $4,725 education award to help pay for college, grad school, vocational training, or to pay off student loans. Those serving part time receive a portion of that amount.

BOEING Scholarships

BOEING offers four different scholarship programs. Awards range from $750 to $3,000.

Burger King Scholarship Program

Coca Cola Scholarships
Each year 250 new Coca-Cola Scholars are designated and invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Scholars are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing leaders in business, government, education and the arts. Fifty students are then designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college study, the remaining 200 nominees are designated as Regional Scholars and receive $4,000 each.

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarships
The program offers two types of Tribute Award Scholarships. State Scholarships which are given to 9 students and are for the amount of 2,500 each, and National Scholarships which are awarded also to 9 students and are for the amount of $25,000 each. The money can be used for any type of education and training beyond high school. High school students are urged to apply.

Easley National Scholarship Program
Available to American high school seniors whom exhibit scholastic excellence and outstanding character. Awards range from $2,000 to 5,000.

Government Finance Officers Association Scholarships
The Association gives four different scholarships to full- or part- time upper-division undergraduate or graduate students studying public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management).

Microsoft Scholarships
The Scholarships are available to students who are enrolled full-time and making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related technical discipline, such as math or physics with a demonstrated interest in computer science. Scholarships are awarded to recipients for one academic year. The scholarship will cover 100 percent of the tuition for the given academic year as posted by the financial aid office of the university or college.

National Alliance for Excellence Scholarship
These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who are judged to be the best in their respective fields. Monetary awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. In addition to the monetary awards NAE also offers free products or mentorship opportunities. Approximately 100 awards are given each year. No deadline for applying.

National Institutes of Health
National Research Service Award (NRSA) Training Grants and Fellowships

A list of grants and predoctoral and postdoctoral scholarships for students involved in biomedical, behavioral sciences, or health services research.

NCAA Scholarships (National Collegiate Athletic Association)

Major NCAA awards are given in all sports categories with amounts varying from $3,000 to $12,500. Awards are also available for sports related study.

Paralegal Scholarships
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc., in conjunction with West Group, award two scholarships totaling $5,000. The scholarships of $3,500 and $1,500 will be presented at the 2003 NFPA Spring Convention in Newport, Rhode Island March 27-30, 2003.

Presidential Freedom Scholarships
Formerly known as the President’s Student Service Scholarships, close to 20,000 scholarships have been awarded to students who have strengthened communities by demonstrating outstanding leadership in service. Each high school in the country may select up to two students to receive a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding leadership in service to the community. The students selected may be either a high school juniors or seniors.

Target Scholarships
These Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors, high school graduates and current college students who are legal U.S. residents (age 24 and under). Applicants must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study no later than the fall term of 2003-2004 school year at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational- technical school in the U.S. Target will award four $10,000 scholarships and over 2100 $1,000 scholarships for higher education (two per Target store).

The ROTC Scholarships
The ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) Programs offered by the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Marine Corps train qualified young men and women to become officers in those services upon graduation from college. ROTC is available in over 1,000 colleges and universities throughout the U. S. The length, value, and terms of ROTC scholarships vary by service. All services offer four-year scholarships that include full tuition, books, fees, and a monthly tax-free stipend.

World Studio Foundation Scholarships
This program is for students whose major or principal area of study is advertising, architecture, environmental graphics, fashion design, filmmaking, fine arts, furniture design, graphic design, illustration, interior design, or landscape architecture. Amounts awarded range from 500 to 2,500.

Intel Science Talent Search
Each year almost 2000 students accept the challenge of completing an entry for the Intel® Science Talent Search, with finalists competing for the top prize-a $100,000 scholarship. The 40 finalists attend the Science Talent Institute in Washington D.C. and receive partial scholarships.

National Peace Essay Contest
The 2002-2003 Essay Contest topic is “The Justification of War”. For the 2002-2003 contest first-place state winners will receive college scholarships of $1,000. First-place state winners will also compete for the national awards of $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 for first, second, and third place respectively. All first-place state winners are invited to attend an all-expense-paid awards program in Washington, D.C. in June 2003.

Siemens Westinghouse Competition
The Siemens Foundation is dedicated to providing scholarships and increasing access to higher education fort talented mathematics, science, and technology students in the United States. The deadline for submitting applications is October 1.

The Student Inventors Competition
The Collegiate Inventors Competition is an international competition designed to encourage college students active in science, engineering, mathematics, technology and creative invention, while stimulating their problem-solving abilities. Each winning student, or student team receives a $20,000 cash prize and a $2,000 gift certificate.

Video Contest for College Students
The winning entries are aired nationwide and the winners receive cash prize of up to $3,000.

Holocaust Remembrance Project
The Holocaust Remembrance Project is a national essay contest for high school students that is designed to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust. Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded to the first-place national winners.
