Kevin C.
Class of 2015

Read my blog: Class of 2015 Freshman Blog—Kevin C.

Hometown: Southport, CT

Major: History

Minor: French Cultural Studies

Current residence: AMR I, Wood

Campus involvement: Tutorial Project, Chinese Lion Dancing, Mock Trial, Blue Key Society

Why I chose Johns Hopkins: Johns Hopkins to me is everything that a great university should be: It's beautiful, the professors are brilliant, the distribution requirements system is liberating, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the people are really smart. When I factored all these together, deciding to come here was an easy choice.

Favorite class: Advanced Writing and Speaking in French. Though the class moves quickly, it's really engaging, the atmosphere is so comfortable, and the professor is so great that it remands me how I love to learn for the sake of learning.

My favorite character from a movie/book/television series: It's not even close to a competition here—Kurt Hummel from Glee. He's in a league of his own.

Favorite place on the Homewood campus: The Gilman atrium. It's gorgeous, coffee shop-adjacent, and a great place to study.

What I want to do with my major: Right now I really want to use it to teach American History in High School.

Coolest (spring/summer/winter) break experience: My trip to The Gambia this summer, teaching math and journalism in a school for underprivileged girls, was certainly the experience of a lifetime.

Three unusual things about myself:

  1. I was bit by a crocodile while doing volunteer work in Africa.
  2. I spelled "antidisestablishmentarianism" in kindergarten.
  3. My go-to curse phrase is "May every truffle you bite into be coconut."
