Why I chose Johns Hopkins: I chose Johns Hopkins because it surpassed my checklist! Not only is it a research-oriented university with breadth and depth across the academic departments, but it's also on the East Coast with easy access to Washington, D.C., and New York.

Favorite class: General Biology. Surprisingly, this is a very fun intro science course! Not only are the professors very enthusiastic about teaching, but the material is interesting in that it can be applied to everyday life.

Favorite professor: Professor Pearlman. She is one of the three lecturing professors for General Biology, and she’s my favorite by far! It’s very refreshing and entertaining to have a professor love their subject as much as Professor Pearlman loves biology.

My favorite character from a movie/book/television series: Tim Gunn from Project Runway. Okay, so maybe he's not a scripted character, but I like him because he can be completely honest with someone when nobody else wants to be. I also find his motto, "Make it work!" to be extremely useful when I find myself in times of trouble!

Favorite place on the Homewood campus: Charles Commons. As a sophomore, you have the option to live in Charles Commons. Not only does it house a student gym and cafeteria, but it also boasts a prime location right next to Char Mar, PJ’s, and Barnes and Noble.

Favorite Johns Hopkins memory: Spring Fair. It’s such a unique weekend at Hopkins in that the campus is literally turned into a “fair” with food stands, local vendors and shops, a beer garden, and live music. It’s also very unique in that the fair attracts professors, students, and the Baltimore public alike.

Three unusual things about myself:

  1. I’ve visited over 18 countries, some including Egypt, China, Japan, Tanzania, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy.
  2. Despite being from Texas, I’m not a country music fan.
  3. I have a mild addiction to sugar-free Red Bull and Kind bars.
