580.630 TheoreticalNeuroscience

Theoretical methods for analyzing informationencoding and functional representations in neural systems. Models of singleand multiple neural spike trains based on stochastic processes and informationtheory; detection and estimation of behaviorally relevant parameters fromspike trains; system theoretic methods for analyzing sensory receptivefields; network models of neural systems. Both theoretical methods andthe properties of specific well-studied neural systems will be discussed.Prerequisites: Introduction to Neuroscience (580.422 or equivalent), Probability(550.420 or equivalent), and Signals and Systems (520.214 or equivalent).
