| ABSTRACT |

The mechanisms of
initiation and sustenance of lethal ventricular
arrhythmias during regional ischemia phase 1b, referring to 20-30 min after
coronary occlusion, are still not well understood. Possible mechanisms include
spontaneous activations resulting from Na overload and the coupling between the
ischemic subepicardium and the non-excitable
midmyocardium. The goal of this study is to assemble a model of the rabbit ventricle
with detailed representation of
pathological conditions and examine the trigger and the substrate necessary to initiate
and maintain arrhythmias.
