Wed, Apr 18 Society of Woman Engineers (SWE) Networking Dinner

6:30-9pm at Charles Commons Banquet Hall. Ladies only. Cost is covered by SWE. RSVP to Lan Le by Apr 15 (extended).

The JHU chapter of the Society of Women Engineers is hosting a networking banquet to give Hopkins undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to meet with engineering faculty and industry experts. This event is a great occasion for students to learn from the experiences of women working in engineering fields, as well as a chance for women engineers who have "been there, done that" to support young women beginning their professional careers.

The keynote speaker this year is Janie Robinson. Janie received her Master's degree in electrical engineering from JHU, and is currently working with Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, VA. She previously worked with the National Security Agency (NSA), which gave her the opportunity travel around the world and spend two years living in Tokyo, Japan. Janie will share her experiences and insights as both a student and a professional.
Sat, Apr 7 APO Carnival
Preparation starts at 11am; event 12-3pm at Freshman Quad
We are having visiting children write their names or make pictures with tangram, a 7-piece ancient Chinese puzzle.
We need volunteers to cut the pieces and man the site. You will help kids solve the puzzle. Also contribute new tangram problems and earn 0.5 credit each!
Attending members (e-mail Reiri to get on this list)

To volunteers: When in need for more pieces, look into this subdirectory. All pieces of tangram should be consumed at an equal rate, and bigger pieces take up more paper, so go to tangram_mass.gif and print TO SCALE the following:

  • 1 yellow
  • 2 green, 2 purple
  • 4 red, 4 orange
  • 3 blue
Then trace yellow once (1) onto skyblue construction paper. An easier way is to print any # of sheets of tangram_takehome.gif which is one color for all 7 pieces, each sheet containing 12 tangrams.
