Description: This course explores the profound economic, political, and social changes that occurred in the United States in the wake of the American Revolution. Topics will range from state-building to the spread of slavery, allowing students to better understand the lasting effects of early nineteenth-century history on the development of American institutions, democracy, and capitalism.
