CPO. Herb Miller

Campus Police Officer Herb Miller has been posthumously selected as the recipient of our Employee of the Year Award for 2011.  Herb, affectionately known as “Pop Hop Cop” by the JHU students, was known to be steady on the job and respected by all that worked with him.  His selection is a lasting tribute to the man and friend that he was.  Herb served 14 years with Campus Safety and Security until his death while on duty on January 18, 2011.   He was a friend to all he met. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

A Tribute to CPO Miller by AlliedBarton Security Officer Willard Brewington:

I met Herb Miller about 5 years ago,
And he did the job right, never for show,
If a door was left open, it was Herb’s to find
With him on patrol, you had peace of mind,
He was a real character, he could make you laugh,
Yet he never cut his patrols in half,
He always had something nice to say,
That was Herb, he would make your day,
If an alarm went off that was loud to the ear,
You could bet that Herb was somewhere near,
That was Herb with always something to do,
Which is why he is loved here at JHU,
Heaven now has someone to watch the gate,
For the rest of us, we have to wait
I can hear Herb’s laugh, it was never mean
