Since August 11th 2007, there have been a sporadic number of residential burglaries reported in the Charles Village area. Occurring between the early evening – early morning hours. Entry has been through unlocked rear doors, unlocked or open windows on the first, second and even third floors. The burglar uses fire escapes to climb the buildings and to gain access to adjoining properties. Ensure that all windows and doors are closed and locked at all times and report all unusual or suspicious activity in rear alleys by immediately calling 911.
We encourage you to review the below listed crime prevention tips and apply the preventive tips to your residence as needed.
Preventing Burglaries
· All windows should be equipped with adequate locking devices and should be kept locked at all times. Windows used for ventilation should be lockable in partially open positions.
· Iron window grates can offer protection, but provision must be made to allow the use of windows for emergency evacuation of the building. Interior removable or folding grates are recommended for this purpose.
· Every outside door should be equipped with a deadbolt lock and locked at all times.
