On-Campus
Power Outage - South End of Campus - On Jan. 8th
at 5:19 PM, fourteen buildings on the south end of campus lost power. Power was
restored to the buildings at approximately 10:30 PM.
Fire (No Injuries) - New Chemistry Building, 3rd
floor lab - On Jan. 9th at approximately 1:10 AM, a graduate
student mixed chemicals that accidentally caused a fire in a lab. The room's
sprinkler system activated extinguishing the fire. Several 2nd and 3rd
floor rooms received water damage. The Baltimore Fire Department responded and
reset the sprinkler and fire alarm. There were no injuries.
Burglary - 3100 North Calvert St., even side - On Jan. 9th at 11:23 AM, a JHU undergraduate contacted Campus Police and Baltimore Police after she woke up to her home alarm sounding. The student saw an unknown male exiting her back yard and walking north bound on Hargrove Street. Police determined the suspect entered the private residence through an unlocked rear door and exited immediately after the alarm sounded. No property was taken from the residence. Officers canvassed the area with negative results. Investigation continuing. Suspect Description: Male, black, approximately 6 feet tall, no additional description.
Theft
- Ames Hall, second floor classroom - Between Dec. 21, 2012 and Jan.
11, 2013, a Mac Book Pro laptop computer belonging to JHU was removed
from a desktop inside a classroom. The laptop had been secured to the desk by a
cable which had been cut. The classroom is open and unlocked during the
weekdays. Investigation continuing.
Off Campus
Vandalism/Graffiti - Between the 3100 - 3300
Blocks of Remington
Ave, odd side - Between Jan. 8th at 4:00 PM and Jan. 9th
at 6:30 AM, unknown individual(s) spray painted graffiti at multiple locations
between these blocks. Investigation continuing.
When traveling at night use the Blue Jay Shuttle service
at 410-516-8700. Blue Jay Shuttle Vans are operational from 5:45 PM to
4:00 AM.
