Weekly Campus Crime Report

 

 

September 14, 2009 – September 21, 2009

 

 

 

On Campus

 

TheftLevering Hall, office in food services area – On Sept. 14th between 6:00 AM and 4:40 PM, two credit cards and a driver’s license were taken from a purse hanging on the office door. The cards were subsequently used off campus. Investigation continuing.

 

ARREST – Suspicious Person / CCTV Observation - Wolman Hall Bike Racks – Sept. 19th at 4:42 AM, a unknown male was observed on CCTV looking at the bikes at the bike rack.  A campus officer and an off-duty Baltimore Police Officer working for JHU responded, stopped and identified the male who was found to have wire/bolt cutters in his possession.  The male was arrested by the Baltimore Police Officer and charged with Rogue & Vagabond (possession of burglary tools).

 

 

 

Off Campus

 

Burglary 300 Blk. E. University Parkway (north side) – On Sept. 14th between 8:10 PM and 9:00 PM, two laptop computers were taken from the bedrooms of junior undergraduates. There were no signs of forced entry to the house. Baltimore Police responded. Investigation continuing.

 

Sudden Death of Intruder (Rear Yard of Private Residence)300 Blk. E. University Parkway (north side) – On Sept. 15th at 1:21 AM, an undergraduate resident confronted and wounded an intruder in the rear of his residence.  Baltimore Police and an ambulance responded. The intruder, a non-affiliated male, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the confrontation. This occurred at a student residence that had been burglarized earlier in the evening.  Investigation continuing.

 

TheftMain Gate of Evergreen House Grounds, 4545 N. Charles St.  – Between Sept. 13th at 4:30 PM and Sept. 14th at 7:30 AM, a white canvas banner advertising the Best Dressed Sale was taken from the gate.

 

Indecent Exposure – 2827 St Paul St. (basement apartment) – On Sept. 16th at 9:30 PM, a JHU graduate reported that an unknown male was standing outside of the  window of his home, exposing himself, while he and his wife were inside of the home. Baltimore Police were notified. This incident was reported to Campus Police on Sept. 17th at 10:03 AM.

 

ARRESTS:

-          Burglary (Private Residence) 220 E. University Parkway (north side) – Sept. 18th at 1:00 PM, a non-affiliate responded to his residence only to discover the front door forced open.  The resident notified Baltimore Police who responded, searched the location and found an unauthorized male inside.  The suspect was arrested and charged with residential burglary.

-          Attempt Theft of Motor Bike / CCTV Observation 3200 Blk. N. Charles St. (east side) – Sept. 20th at 5:10 AM, two unknown males were observed on CCTV taking a motor bike from the front yard of a fraternity house and setting it on the sidewalk.  The two suspects fled upon being confronted by a campus officer.  A suspect was located walking in the 3200 block of  N. Calvert Street by a campus officer who summoned a Baltimore Police Officer working for JHU to responded.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the subject was that same suspect observed on CCTV.    The suspect was arrested and charged with attempt theft of a motor bike.

 

Burglaries:

-          (Private Residence / non-affiliate) 3200 Blk. N. Calvert St. – On Sept. 19th between 1:27 AM and 1:33 AM, a non-affiliated community member was awakened by a noise from a 2nd floor bedroom and on checking into it observed an unknown male run down the stairs and out the 1st floor rear kitchen door.  A jewelry box containing jewelry was discovered missing.  Entry is believed to have been gained via the unlocked kitchen door.  Baltimore Police responded.

-          (Private Residence / grad student) Unit Blk. W. 27th St. – On Sept. 21st at 5:00 AM, a graduate student’s was awakened by a noise coming from her bathroom.  Upon investigating she heard someone on the fire escape and then observed an unknown male running down the alley.  Inventory of the apartment revealed a laptop computer, Netbook and wallet were missing.  Entry had been gained via an unlocked bathroom window.  Baltimore Police responded.  Investigation continuing.

 

Recovered Stolen Auto (Non-Affiliated) – 3200 Blk. N. Charles St. (east side) – On Sept. 20th at 5:20 AM, a campus officer found a parked minivan with a passenger side window having been pried and a damaged ignition. Campus officers found bench seats that had been taken out of the minivan in the 3200 Blk. of Lovegrove Street.  Investigation is continuing by Baltimore Police.  The vehicle’s owner is a non-affiliate who does not live in the vicinity.

 

Shoplifting (Citation issued) Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 3330 St. Paul St. – On Sept. 19th at 6:01 PM, the store manager reported a patron in a wheel chair behaving suspiciously and then entering the restroom. Baltimore Police responded and found that the suspect had hidden the contents of a boxed game under his scooter seat. The property was recovered. The non-affiliated suspect was issued a citation and given a trespass warning.

 

Theft from Auto 3211 N. Charles St. (Rear Lot) – On Sept. 19th between 12:01 AM and 7:00 AM, an iPod was taken from a junior undergraduate’s parked vehicle.  Entry had been gained by breaking a passenger side window.   Investigation continuing

When traveling at night use the Security Department’s escort service at 410-516-8700.  Security Escort Vans are operational from 5:00 PM to 3:00AM.
