Syphilis Outreach Project
Salud works with the baltimore health department on the syphilis awareness outreach project for the latino community. Our goal is to spread awareness about syphilis and HIV to local latino communities and businesses. volunteers go out once a week to local communities, hand out brochures about these diseases, and speak to local residents. We travel in vans where that carry testing supplies so people can get tested on the spot. All volunteers must go through two training sessions: one involves listening to a presentation and the other involves doing outreach with a trained volunteer. There are also opportunities to work as an HIV counselor and join the steering/publicity commitee with the health dept. All volunteers will receive a certificate from BHD after one semester of volunteering.
