Health Communication
A significant need exists within the Baltimore community to design a program that helps Hispanics and Latinos better understand ways to prevent the onset of diabetes. Literature suggests that Hispanics and Latinos have a high risk for developing diabetes during their lifetimes and can expect shortened life expectancy as a result of it. Programa Salud’s Health Communication Project will create radio and T.V. public health announcements in Baltimore to increase awareness of diabetes. Salud will encourage Hispanics and Latinos to lead healthy lifestyles, especially through diet. Utilizing media outlets will help spread our diabetes message to the greater community. Volunteers are needed to help research, design, and produce the diabetes health announcements. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary. We seek volunteers that are interested in making a difference in the community.
