Kate Flores

I'm from Stamford, Connecticut, a small city that has both New England charm and the vibe of a suburb heavily influenced by nearby New York City. After receiving a Catholic school education from nursery school to high school, I decided to go to college somewhere completely different from everything familiar to me. I'm now a sophomore neuroscience major and classics minor at the Johns Hopkins University, and I've enjoyed my two years here so far. The workload is challenging, but I think the general desire among students and faculty to ask questions constantly and to explore intellectual fields is quite invigorating. Seriously!
When I'm not learning about neuroscience (both in the lecture hall and in the Ryugo lab), studying classics, or practicing piano (I originally wanted to be a classics/music double minor, but I've decided to stick to taking piano lessons for credit when it comes to studying music), I keep myself busy in various ways. I spend much of my free time volunteering for the undergraduate admissions office at Hopkins, participating in community service projects, and dancing (especially ballet, salsa, and Filipino folk dancing). It sounds like I'm the kind of person who always needs to do something, but I enjoy spending my weekends hanging out with my friends or listening to music while relaxing in my room.
By the way, as a volunteer for the undergraduate admissions office, I keep a blog that chronicles my experiences as an undergraduate student at Hopkins; you can check it out at http://hopkins.typepad.com/kate. |
