Iris Chen

I currently live in Laurel, Maryland and recently graduated from Atholton High
School. I joined the lab as part of the Howard County Intern/Mentor
Program as a senior. The program encourages high school juniors and seniors to
intern at a site of their choice. I chose the Ryugo Lab because my
primary interest is biology and the lab gives me an opportunity to
experience actual research. I am currently working on analyzing the
spiral ganglion cells of congenitally-deaf kittens to determine
whether or not cochlear implantation has an effect on their size,
shape, and survival. This fall, I will start as an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
When I'm not at the lab, I enjoy playing video games, shopping, and
hanging out with my friends. I also spend a lot of time with my older
sister when she comes home from college. I finally have some spare
time outside of schoolwork this year, so I'm picking up some of my
old past-times such as reading and writing. I thoroughly plan on
enjoying my summer and the time I will be spending
at the lab.
