HISTORY
OF CHINESE MEDICINE (3) Hanson Limit 25/section
How did Chinese conceptualize the human body, health and disease
over the past 2,000 years? How did these concepts change over
time and differ according to region? Why do gender, class, and
place matter? Who practiced medicine in China, what did they practice,
where, and how do we know what we know about them? These are some
of the questions students will engage by discussing the most recent
historical, anthropological, and philosophical scholarship on
the history of medicine in China and reading a wide range of primary
sources on Chinese medicine in English translation.
